ThinkForward Partnership Update 2022
Back to School, Back at Work!
ThinkForward is an incredible charity providing coaching to young people between the ages of 13 and 18, and often provides support past this point too. Their goal is to provide the skills and experiences some young people need to move smoothly from school or college to the world of work when they finish their education.
Enabled by a dedicated team of coaches working with small cohorts in a number of schools, the young people are given the tools to build their confidence and open up opportunities they may not have been able to access before.
Work Insights
After a few years of not being able to host these events, due to Covid, the team at Price & Buckland was so pleased to have recently welcomed students from a local school in Nottingham.
As a school uniform supplier, Price & Buckland are proud to work with ThinkForward, facilitating Work Insights that give young people a sneak peek into the world of work, the different types of workplaces and the wide range of job roles they might be interested in. From manufacturing and administration to design and warehousing work, students get the chance to meet all kinds of people and hear about their different journeys. Alongside this, their dedicated coaches work with them to develop the key life skills and values they’ll need to overcome any potential barriers to success.
Tailor-making School Uniform
The children spent time in our print and embroidery department, learning how we produce bespoke school uniforms – a product they’re all so well acquainted with – and had the opportunity to flex their creative muscles by designing and printing their own tote bags. They even got the chance to see the large embroidery machines in action, as well as the hand-finishing techniques applied by our skilled team.
The Next Generation of School Uniform Suppliers!
We then took them into one of our warehouses, stacked high with boxes and boxes of bespoke school uniforms. We split the group into two and sent them off to pick a real-life school uniform order – the first group to pick their order wins! Learning about teamwork, organisation skills and attention to detail; we had a few mis-picks, but both teams got stuck in and found what they needed (mostly)!
Employability Skills
These types of employability activities are designed to broaden the horizons of young people and give them real-life experiences in the workplace, reducing the chances that they’ll leave school with no job opportunity or further education in place. In fact, according to ThinkForward, young people who have four or more contacts with workplaces are five times less likely to become unemployed!
