P&B TrailBlazers: Macmillan Cancer Support’s Mighty Hike 2025
Giving back is a core part of what we do, and we’re always looking for new ways to support causes that truly make a difference. Last year, our team tackled Cancer Research UK’s Big Hike in the Peak District, with some of us signing up for the full marathon (A* for effort!) and others sensibly opting for the half (still full marks in our book). Our legs might have been in detention for a while afterwards, but the experience inspired us to lace up our boots once more, this time in support of Macmillan Cancer Support’s Mighty Hike.
Fast forward to the 19th of July, and Team P&B was back on the trails. Fifteen of us signed up (our biggest hiking squad yet) nicknaming ourselves The P & B TrailBlazers. Some had taken part in last year’s adventure, and others were brand-new recruits to the hiking class of 2025. But whether you were a seasoned trekker or a fresher to the Mighty Hike scene, we all shared the same goal: raising money for an incredible cause.

For many of us, this wasn’t just a walk in the park (or field) - it was deeply personal. Supporting Macmillan meant something special to each and every one of us, and being able to give back while spending the day together in our not-so-natural habitat made it all the more meaningful.
This year, we took our prep a bit more seriously. No last-minute cramming! We swapped lunch breaks for lunchtime laps and made the most of weekend wanders and motivational mutt walks. Let’s just say, the PE department would’ve been proud.

The Big Day: Saturday 19th July 2025
Weeks of preparation and one very early morning later, the big day had finally arrived. We arrived at Bakewell Showground bright-eyed and bushy-tailed - or at least trying to be.
We met in the car park and once we had established that everyone had turned up, we headed to the starting point.
After signing in, posing for our pre-walk group photo and completing our pre-hike warm up (a very important step as we were soon to find out) we were off!

We walked for about 5 minutes and then encountered our first steep incline. Never have we been so relieved that the weather wasn't exceptionally warm, though the muggy weather did still made it a challenge. However we finally reached the top and thankfully there was a reasonable length of time we were walking on a flat track to catch our breaths. After reaching the first checkpoint at 7 miles, we were very happy to discover a snack spread that deserved top grades - flapjacks, cereal bars, and enough fruit to open a tuck shop.
After the first stop we naturally separated into smaller groups of different walking speeds. The walk continued past some beautiful Peak District landscape which helped to lift our spirits and our feet. Lunch was a much-needed break at mile 14.8, with enough pasta and salad to make us forget we still had several miles to go. After a quick stretch and motivational pep talk, we got back on the trail.

The next 7 miles passed fairly quickly till we reached the final rest stop. This time there was no sitting down - we knew if we sat, we might not get up again! A water refill, a quick stretch, and we were ready to tackle the final miles with only a few queries about "are we nearly there yet"?
The first group crossed the finish line around 5.23pm with everyone else following within the hour. Tired? Yes. Achy? Absolutely. But most importantly, proud to have completed such an amazing challenge together.
A huge well done to every member of our Mighty Hike team - you absolutely nailed it! 🎉
We are absolutely thrilled to have raised a total of £3,920 for this incredible charity. It's not too late to support our Mighty Hike team and help us raise even more for Macmillan Cancer Support. You can do so by visiting our JustGiving Page. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference.
